Dudley, Mass.- Senior Lauren Person (Vernon, Conn.) picks up the record for most wins in a career with her 42nd and 43rd wins as the Bison sweep the Hawks of roger Williams 9-1 and 5-4. The Bison are now 22-11overall and 17-3 in the conference. The Hawks fall to 16-18 overall and 10-8 in the conference.
The Bison game out of the gates swinging in game one as they scored at least one run in the first four innings. In the second inning, sophomore Lauren Lombardo (Wolcott, Conn.) led off the inning with a walk and Lindsay Hassett (Oxford, Mass.) hit a double down the left field line. With runners at second and third, Christina Hebert (Johnston, R.I.) had an RBI single up the middle. Loren Rozanski (Plainville, Conn.) and Joanne Brignoli (Feeding Hills, Mass.) also had RBI singles in the inning to put the Bison up 5-0 after two innings.
The Bison scored two runs in the third and two more in the fourth. Freshman Shaleese Young (Salt Lake, Utah) had an RBI single that scored Christina Hebert who reached on an error by the shortstop. Person led off the fourth with a double down the line and later scored on an RBI single by Tracy Cullity, Manchester, N.H.). Cullity then scored on a bases loaded walk by Christina Palmerino (Southbridge, Mass.).
Person pitched a great game as she only have up one run off of three hits and two walks. She also had three strikeouts. The one run that she gave up came in the fourth inning as the Hawks strung together two hits by LeEllen Lewis (Brunswick, Md.) and Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.).
In game two the Bison jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Palmerino led off the third with a bunt single and advanced to second on a groundout by Hassett and to third on a wild pitch. Brignoli hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which scored Palmerino. Cullity reached on a walk and Lombardo hit her fifth homerun of the season.
The Hawks tied the score up in the top of the seventh inning. Kerry Burke (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led off the inning with a single through the left side and Jen Lyford (Raynham, Mass.) reached on a walk. Lewis hit an RBI single down the left field line for the Hawks second run of the game. A passed ball and an error allowed the next two runners to score as the score was now 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Person came in to pitch in the eighth inning and got the Hawks to go one-two-three on a sacrifice bunt, groundout and a strikeout. The Bison won the game in the bottom of the eighth when Brignoli reached on an error by the shortstop and Kayla Hebert (Johnston, R.I.) scored as the Bison won 5-4.
Hassett pitched seven strong innings only giving up two earned runs off of eight hits and four walks. She also struck out seven batters. Andrea Gregory pitched a good game for the Hawks as she pitched seven plus innings giving up three earned runs off of five hits and two walks. She also struck out five.
